Warsaw has joined the Start Alliance, an international business network. Thanks to the partnership, innovative companies from the capital city will have the opportunity of getting to know foreign markets more easily, obtaining assistance in their plans of foreign expansion and raising capital. In exchange, foreign companies from the member cities will obtain a comprehensive business service. The project is implemented by three institutions from the PFR Group - the Polish Development Fund (PFR), the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAiH) and the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP). The membership was officially announced during the Wolves Summit congress.
The main objective of the programme is to develop and improve the quality of the innovation ecosystem in Poland. Warsaw has joined the world list of innovative Start Alliance cities, bringing together centres such as: London, Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Shanghai, New York and Tel Aviv. The capital city’s membership in the network will bring a number of benefits for businesses. They will have a facilitated contact with foreign startups and trade and networking events organised in the partner cities. In addition, they will be able to count on the access to free co-working spaces, meetings with representatives of corporations, and consultations regarding taxes, law, personnel and migration issues in selected partner cities. In exchange, the Polish Investment and Trade Agency will offer a comprehensive service to foreign companies interested in conducting business in Warsaw.
During the opening ceremony, Paweł Borys, President of the PFR, said: “For Warsaw, Start Alliance provides the opportunity to appear on the map of highly innovative cities. I encourage our entrepreneurs to use the foreign potential which is now even easier to reach.”
Dr Krzysztof Senger, Vice President of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency, which became a contact point for Start Alliance in Poland, talks about the benefits of joining the network: “For technology companies from Warsaw, close cooperation with the technology environment from around the world is a great opportunity to develop and build international recognition. The participation in the Start Alliance initiative will be beneficial for Warsaw itself, as it will build the image of the innovative capital city of Poland.’’
Start Alliance is the initiative of the city of Berlin and the organisation Berlin Partner. Its purpose is to cross-link the most innovative cities in the world and to create a platform for the flow of innovative companies. Companies - instead of competing with each other - obtain the space to collaborate and build new international relations. The events offered as part of Start Alliance are dedicated to the companies that are past the prototype phase and have a ready product on the home market.
The benefit for Warsaw associated with the participation in the network will be the promotion of innovative companies operating on this market and building an innovative brand of the capital abroad.
